Our Roles & How We Got Here

Scott: A Missionary Wired to Help Missionaries

In 2006, three years after making a decision to follow Jesus, I (Scott) was working a corporate job at a wireless internet provider. I’d always had this nagging feeling that I wasn’t doing what I was meant to do.

I had no idea what God had in store for me.

Six months later, I met Angie. As we dated she began to tell me about her life as a missionary. I was intrigued when she said that the World Headquarters, where she worked, had a great need for people with computer skills like mine.

I met with the IT (Information Technology) team and, in November 2007, felt God move in my heart to join as a missionary, too.

Like Angie, I get to serve behind-the-scenes, in a role that helps serve Campus Crusade staff members around the world. As a computer technician, I get to assist my fellow missionaries’ by fixing their computers problems.  I love helping them to free up their time so that they can focus on the role God has called them to.

Angie: Helping Missionaries Be Healthy

From early on, my (Angie) dream had always been to work in a big-city ad agency. However, God had done so much in my life through my college involvement with Campus Crusade for Christ at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln that I was considering joining its staff. So, I did in 1998.

Since becoming a mom, I get the opportunity to stay at home with Lizzy and yet still work part-time. And my role is new: directing the Healthy Living Ministry at Campus Crusade’s world headquarters.

Many people have wellness programs at their office or are familiar with them. The main thought behind corporate wellness programs — if you’re unfamiliar — is that a healthy person is a happier, more effective worker.

What gets me excited is this: the 1,000 men and women who serve in the desks at our office are behind-the-scenes missionaries. By serving them (like Scott does with his crazy-smart computer skills), we get to help them more effectively do what God’s called them to do.

I’m praying that the overflow of this new role will be missionaries with increased health, capacity and effectiveness in spreading the gospel.

  1. Hi Girleen,

Guess I never knew how your role at Cru changed…what an absolutely wonderful gift the Lord has given you there!

Your family is just precious. Wish I could hug and kiss you all, especially little Lizzy…she’s a doll.

Maybe some day the Lord will see fit to bring me back to the flatlands of Florida…I’m praying on that one and like today’s ‘Whatever’, I’m wanting to do it His way and not mine, in order that I too can witness His glory in all things.

Sure miss you…am grateful for our active season together.

    Love you,
    BSue
